How do I get prayer time notifications on iPhone?

Apple only allows web notifications when qaari is installed to your iPhone home screen. Open qaari.org in Safari, tap the Share button (square with up arrow), tap Add to Home Screen, then open Qaari from the new home screen icon. On the Prayer Times page, tap Enable prayer alerts and allow the iOS permission, then tap Enable under Reliable alerts. Requires iOS 16.4 or newer (March 2023). Notifications will not fire from a regular Safari tab and cannot be enabled from Chrome or Firefox on iOS, because Apple requires the Add to Home Screen step.

Why don’t prayer notifications work in Safari on iPhone?

Apple restricts web push notifications on iOS to installed Progressive Web Apps. A regular Safari tab cannot deliver background notifications, even with permission granted. The fix is to add qaari to the home screen using the Share button in Safari, then open it from the home screen icon and enable alerts there.

On Android Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet, or Firefox, open qaari.org/prayer-times, tap Enable prayer alerts and allow the permission, then tap Enable under Reliable alerts. For best background reliability, also tap the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

Will prayer alerts fire when the browser is closed?

Yes, when Reliable alerts (background push) is enabled. The qaari push server fires a notification every prayer time even with the browser fully closed, on Android Chrome, on desktop Chrome / Firefox / Edge / Brave, and on iOS once installed as a PWA. With reliable push disabled, alerts only fire while the qaari tab is open.

Can I get a reminder before each prayer?

Yes. In the Prayer time alerts panel, choose 5, 10, or 15 minutes before each prayer. The reminder fires in addition to the alert at the exact prayer time. You can also pick which prayers to be notified for individually.
